== About PAWS ==
Personalized Adaptive Web Systems Lab was established in 2004 with support from National Science Foundation and School of Information Sciences. The goal of the PAWS Lab is development and evaluation of innovative user- and group-adaptive Web-based technologies, systems, and architectures. The Lab currently explores a range of user modeling, adaptation and personalization technologies. The work of the Lab is supported by NSF and DARPA funding.

I started my PhD in Fall 2010. I am interested in studying social online communities from a software design perspective. Lot of research is being done on using social and psychological sciences to understand, support and regulate online communities. I am now doing research on creating incentives to contribute in short-term communities and online communities of practice. I am also working on a inchoate collaborative project between research projects in USA and Chile that aims to identify learning problems in Chilean schools and provide technology-based solutions from a research perspective.
Mike's dissertation proposes a novel way of speeding the development of new adaptive
hypermedia systems. The gist of the approach is to extract the adaptation functionality out of the
adaptive hypermedia system, encapsulate it into a standalone system, and offer adaptation as a
